Mr. Workman's broad legal background provides him with extensive knowledge of commercial law, intellectual property, labor and employment matters, asset protection (both domestic and offshore), and all manner of contracts, licenses and business arrangements in both the transactional and litigation contexts. He is an adept negotiator and collaborator with a track record of resolving challenging problems. He draws upon his experience as house counsel to media, e-commerce and nutrition companies for practical insight into the role of outside counsel in relation to business operations and management. A sampling of his recent transactional work includes drafting and negotiating complex agreements related to asset acquisitions, shareholder buy-outs, intellectual property licensing, restrictive covenants, key employee and professional consulting contracts, commercial leases, and joint venture agreements. Mr. Workman also has extensive experience in UCC Article 9 and secured transactions.
Mr. Workman began his career with a nationally recognized top-tier law firm in Los Angeles and then with a 'boutique' Beverly Hills firm. He moved on to serve as senior counsel to a television network and its production and licensing operations. Subsequently, Mr. Workman served as general counsel to a group of media, marketing and e-commerce ventures and their complex business structures. Since the founding pf his law practice, Stephen W. Workman PC d/b/a Steve Workman Law, he has provided legal advice and guidance to small and mid-size businesses, entrepreneurs and start-ups, as well as individuals.
Mr. Workman is a member of the Illinois, California and Texas bars, and represents clients in Chicagoland and throughout the United States. He graduated with high honors from University of Illinois College of Law (a top-20 school). He pursued LLM (Master of Laws) studies at John Marshall Law College in both International Business & Trade and Intellectual Property. He earned his undergraduate degree from Miami University (Ohio).
